A little perspective!

Regular readers might think that Merewether in Newcastle has perfect surf all the time. I hate to destroy the myth, but here's a little perspective: this morning's shot!

very similar to yesterday...just add rain

Anyone for Tennis?

Pretty flat by the looks of this...could be a good day for a paddle, skateboarding, chess or (dare I say it) writing reports!

Back in Business

Good news boys! The live Jinshan cam from the restaurant is back in action. I pulled this still shot from it just a while back. Very flat, but at least now (fingers crossed!) we can again get a good look at conditions. Check first link on the right.

There were some nice conditions back home on the Merewether stretch yesterday.

Jazzy

Spidersurf have a jazzy new site. You still have to subscribe to get immediate pics, but you can go here and get a feed from about 8.30 in the morning...at least it gives you some idea. Current still shot is above.

Mild interest

The set is mildly interesting, but there's not a whole lot happening this morning. Ross just rang from the activity centre where he has arrived with Tobes: that call is confirmed. Seems to be a lot of swimming and perhaps cavorting, but not much surfing! Carl and Sean also enjoyed a pleasant cool off, but not a lot of waves.
Yesterday, Carl reported a nice bit of swell but straight handers at Act Cent, the NEaster blowing away the wedge bank. Jinshan was a circus, having to pay for a park wherever you stopped...

A few lines

watched the cam for a while: there are quite a few handy little lines pushing through, especially in the background. I'm still crook, so I'll leave it to the rest of you...have a good one

All quiet on the northern front

After quite a lashing, the north coast has reverted to type today. Might be a couple of smooth little ones for the interested...
Regular commenter, Danny, was right about the south west: check this chocolate milkfest courtesy of bluebirdboarding, who, by the way, we welcome back after their hiatus.
Probably too much info, but chocolate milk reminds me of my current affliction...I'll be leaving the surfing to others for the time being!

Tuesday Sequence

Latest sequence of shots sweeping Jinshan...looks interesting

World's Best

The greatest rugby league player in the world, Newcastle's Andrew Johns, joined Newcastle's best surfers: Mark Richards, Luke Egan, Simon Law and Matt Hoy in an expression session at Merewether beach in 3 metre waves a couple of weeks back. While he said he was "out of his league", he pulled a few nice moves in the monster surf.

Anklebiters

The occasional ankle biter is pushing through. Long boards for sure...looks like another nice day weather wise.

Flat but fun

No photos: camera left in car.
Act Cent pretty flat, so Dave and Ross checked Jinshan 2. Tobes waited for the Taipei family Robinson and Clarky, who were on their way. Ross and Dave surfed nearly till dark: it was really small, but glassed off and the barreling shorebreak was kinda fun.

Pillbox return

Ross gets a last shot at a little stormy...

Just enough swell to force a smoothish 2 footer through the pillbox rocks this arvo.
Carl, Ross and Dave got a few and checked out the wedding party as well.

Pillbox calling...

we're off in about half an hour...if there's a wave like this at Jinshan point, we reckon we'll get something.

Stay tuned

later today...

A slight improvement...

Solid Six

The boys are getting the occasional six incher off the peak here.

Sunday, May 07, 2006

The Cliff, on the Merewether stretch this morning, looks like good fun. Not long now...

Nothing on...

Risking being accused again of lacklustre posting (see comments below "Oh #$%^"), I will make the bold call that you won't miss much today if you don't go. See accompanying photographic evidence.

Stuck indoors

Work kept me indoors till just now, but it looked like a great day out on the north coast. Ross ended up at number 2 and got a few fun shories on the fish. Tobes was the bravest: he went out in this crowd!

Thursday, May 04, 2006

Oh @#%*..we missed this!

Offshore, OK size, clean...check the waves in the background.

Don't you just hate this...?!

Wednesday Warriors

"Went to the act cent. First 20 minutes I thought I was going to slit my wrists. Peaks rising in the center of the beach and crumbling on top but not breaking. Not even enough oomph to get a decent boogie board ride and I was on the Flamer. As the tide went out the small shorey by the far wall started to work and we carved up a few 6 – 12 inchers. Tobes is getting pretty nimble on that plank and was getting right across these tiddlers, so come a real wave he’ll be dangerous. All in all it was just good to get wet."

?

Not really sure what this dashi pic tells us: the weather's shocking up in the north here...maybe it will whip up a bit of wind swell.

Important Milestone

We just had our 1st anniversary!
Hard to believe the Pointies have been going so long. Thanks for the support, we're getting more than 25 hits every day, which is pretty good for a little blog with what we thought would be limited appeal. We always welcome your comments: we even got one in French yesterday...(see under "Offshore" post)

Sunday Report

"Went to activity beach and to jin shan...both looked like a lake. Parking lot still closed at jin shan so too much trouble. The re-model of that large stone building is looking good. New large wood deck over looking jin shan beach looks great. Also several new surf shops have opened up along the road. Walked into Johnny's shop and he was sleeping...sums up the surfing today. 20 guys on a 6 inch shore break." Tobes
