A thousand apologies!

jinshan early Posted by Hello

Poor old Gary and Brian! The photographic evidence doesn't lie. The three frustrated pointies just needed to haul themselves over the mountain about 5 hours earlier than they did on Saturday. Apologies to our Pointy members, Tobes and big Gazza: your surf reports are much valued........maybe we should put Carl on intensive track?!
This Jinshan is an enigma....look at the difference a few hours makes.

Home soon....

bar beach, newcastle Posted by Hello

Ross and Dave went to check the Pillbox this morning after seeing a blown out Jinshan. Just not enough swell and strong cross-shore wind. Came back without going out.
In contrast, this is the surf in Newcastle today......ah well, won't be long!

Worst Surf Report in History!!

thanks fellas! Posted by Hello

Three Pointies rushed over the mountain independently after receiving a glowing surf report from Brian and Gary. I quote "best surf I've had in Taiwan" and "world rated 4/10" etc. Ross even chased us over on his scooter through the howling wind and rain.
Gary and Tobes are now on intensive track after this shocking call....are your ears still burning boys?! Check these 4 photos and you'll see why we were a little upset!

More from Lewy

bob and dave Posted by Hello

Last Thursday at the rocket. Current surf conditions are close to flat. Photos are pretty grainy as they've been zoomed and cropped. The Antipodeans look like getting a once in a decade huge swell this weekend....we'll wait and see what we get!

Green Bay:small but clean

ross paddles out Posted by Hello

Ross and Dave got a few small clean waves at the near end of Green Bay this afternoon.
They paddled up and down the beach a few times chasing the break and wherever they left, the waves came in!
Really nice conditions, all we need now is some swell.

Rocket fun

dave's backhand cutback Posted by Hello

From the shutter of Lewy comes a few shots of last Thursday. Bob, Clarky, Ross and Dave all got a few nice little ones. There was no surf to write about this weekend, but we're hoping for a bit of a spike this week, probably again on Thursday. Keep an eye on reports (access the links to the right) and expect a few more shots from this day soon.

Lewy is the official photographer for the Pointy Hats! Got a few nice little ones at the Rocket this afternoon and Lewy came across to take a few shots. Clarky checked the quality of the photos and Ross and Dave along with Clarky and Penry enjoyed some nice smooth little lefts and rights. Some of Lewy's work will be featured in upcoming posts.

Jinshan Dream?

jinshan dream Posted by Hello

This is not a dream. Jinshan with perfect unridden waves at some point in the recent past……..these days never to be seen again?
While we’re waiting for some waves here’s an interesting video on fin design. If you want to hone those hangin’ ten skills check a few of these.
We’re heading out tomorrow afternoon to try to catch some of the swell rumored to be here.

From the Vault

green bay Posted by Hello

Conditions are tiny this weekend with pelting rain. This shot is from the halcyon days of about 2 years ago when Green Bay was providing consistent, fun little rights and lefts. This must be old, because Dave is still riding the red flame board, Ross paddling out to the left

Zeph rules the waves!

Zeph Posted by Hello

Dan and Niccy's son, Zeph, is ruling the waves at just two years old. Yes, 2!! This youngest member of the Pointy Hats will be surfing rings around us by the time he's 4 or 5.
Dad helped Zeph get a few little beauties on Friday afternoon at Jinshan.

About 3/4 of an hour after this shot, the wind went offshore and dropped off completely. The tide dropped and consistent clean little waves starting coming through. Tobes had a great session and stayed in for ages. Looks like Ross and Dave made the wrong call on the spot this time, floundering around at the Rocket!!
