40,000 here we come!
We're approaching 40,000 hits, so I thought we'd celebrate with a new template design. I've kept the banner at the top, cos it looked a bit weird without it. If you're desperate to get the old template back just let me know, but I kinda like this one with the surfer traveling down the page with you, just sitting elusively outside that barrel....

Uh Oh!
Tobes showed me his glossy new issue of "The Surfer's Journal" today. It looks unreal, BUT, there's a beautiful feature article on the allure of Taiwan. Maybe, planes full of surfer dudes might come, see what we usually see, then stay away forever more!

Point X
The Robinsons got Su Ao at a nice consistency today. Quite a crew in the water and there were more getting out when they arrived at 9.(photos: Dan and Nicky)

Not much...
Dave got a few sloppy Jinshan waves (above) before conditions got even worse. The Robbos turned up but didn't waste their time on this slop, rather headed for Greenies/Baishawan for a look see. Good to get in the water though...

Pointyhats hit Singapore!
Dave and Wal had a great weekend in Singapore. Golf, races, beers etc. but the highlight was catching up with Singaporean Pointyhat members, Josh, Lewy and Clarky. It was a rollickin' weekend even though a bit of a haze at times!
Clarky had some great stories of his trip last week to Shipwrecks: he got some classic conditions, edgy and exciting, offshore and clear, juicing up loads of adrenalin with a bunch of mates. He still had a big smile on his face this weekend, so it was an epic session.

Irons...gone
Sad news re Andy Irons...check video above. On a brighter note, Steph Gilmore just secured her 4th world women's crown after just 4 attempts...impressive.

Dreamin' on
If you've got bigger jewels than me and the road to nanas is open again, you could probably get some epic stuff down there in the next couple days...

Wushi Days
Wushi gang was crankin' yesterday morning, but kinda looked even better this afternoon as Surfella's resident photographer did a rare double shoot. Here's this morning and here's the smoothed out smaller action this afternoon. Damn this work thing!
Thanks to Gp and Scott for the tip about this action, and thanks to the legend out on the east coast who posts this stuff daily....we salute you!

LIVE testing
New phone with camera. Live updates will be theoretically possible if this works. Keyboard shot in lieu of any waves in my apartment!

Charts Check...
current conditions... |
Most for midnight Saturday till Sunday morning, except one which is labeled "current conditions."
Packing a punch: in both hemispheres
The biggest wave ever recorded powered through Tasmanian waters yesterday at a crazy 18.4 metres (yes, metres, not feet!). The same swell is predicted to produce a monster surf in Sydney this weekend. The photo shows Manly this morning as it builds.
Of course, Taiwan itself will also feel some power this weekend, but we'll wait and see if we can get out past the coast guard somewhere as Typhoon Fanapi rumbles across. The east coast was certainly building in strength this morning...
and I just love this shot. The girls are certainly showing the guys how it's done over there...
Be safe!

Small fast and hollow
Pointies was dead flat and had a clubbies carnival about to start. Jinshan number 2 had big fatties out the back pushing onto a bank about 1 foot deep. Dave cracked a stack of fast little barrels and ate a lot of sand! Great fun, a little 1 1/2 hour window before it all filled up again...

Inconvenient Truth
This is right now.......
and this is tomorrow same time. Looks like we're going to miss this swell.
Saturday early has a smallish swell line hovering off the northwest coast, but time will tell.....

Are you kidding?!
Occasionally I use the excuse here in Taiwan that I'm not going because of small sloppy surf. Check this amazing air in, ah, small sloppy surf!
